Description
THE PERALTA STONE MAPS ARE COMING TO THE SUPERSTITION MOUNTAIN MUSEUM An agreement has been reached between the A.L. Flagg Foundation and the Superstition Mountain Museum to place the Peralta Stone Maps on display at our our museum for viewing by our patrons, members of the A.L. Flagg Foundation, and the Arizona Mining and Minerals Museum. It is said that the stones were found by Travis Tumlinson in late 1949 on a small knoll along Highway 60 by the Queen Creek Bridge. The stones were later sold to Clarence O. Mitchell, a friend of Tumlinson's. Mitchess would later write a booklet titled Superstition Treasures under the pen name of Travis Marlowe in which he tells a story of his involvement with the Stone Maps and his search for what he thought they pointed to in the Superstition Mountains. Where the Peralta Stone Maps lead, what they show, and the interpretation of the symbols on the maps are varied as all the stories on the Lost Dutchman Mine. The maps will arrive at the Museum in May and a special pre-introduction unveiling presentation and celebration will be held at the Museum June 25, 2009.
